The lavender fields in Virginia are blooming! I’ve been seeing lots of beautiful photos of lavender fields in Virginia and Maryland so I’ve been wanting to catch a glimpse myself. We went to Seven Oaks Lavender Farm VA. These little lavender fields don’t even compare to anything you may see in Provence, France, but at least you can smell the lavender fields close to home!
When Does Lavender Bloom?
Lavender fields in the area usually bloom June – July. Every farm has different peak dates so I would definitely check with each farm to see when is the best time to go.
At Seven Oaks Lavender Farm, the season begins June 9th to July 18th 2021 Their hours of operation are:
- Monday – Friday 9 AM – 4 PM
- Saturday – Sunday 9 AM – 5 PM
How Much Does it Costs To Enter the Farm?
The entrance fee (07/2020) at Seven Oaks Lavender Farm is $5.00 for Adults (age 16 and up) and children $3.00 (age 4 and up). Purchase your tickets on the website ahead of time. There is currently a CertifiKid deal for $1 off admission.
You are able to cut fresh lavender stems at 15 cents apiece. Scissors are provided or bring your own! Bring your own basket to carry them. Wildflowers and herbs are also for sale.
Can you Picnic at the Farm?
Yes! Bring your own picnic blanket and your own food. There were two or three tables you could sit at. There are trash cans and a port-a-potty.
Is the Lavender Field Family Friendly?
Seven Oaks Lavender Farm is very family-friendly. They have a little bunny-looking farm. You can picnic under the trees. You can cut your own fresh lavender and purchase lavender cupcakes and lemonade from the farm! Definitely try the lemonade, the kids will love it!
My kids loved chasing the butterflies through the lavender fields. There are a lot of bees as well, but many of them appeared to be bumblebees. It’s a small place, but definitely enough for kids to enjoy and a nice spot to take photos and have a picnic. We probably spent about an hour at the farm.
Can You Bring Pets?
At Seven Oaks Lavender Farm, the farm allows leashed dogs on Mondays 9 A.M. to Noon.
Can You Socially Distance at the Farm?
We went Monday at noon last year, and there were not too many people at the farm. The farm requests everyone to bring a mask when interacting with staff and others.
Do You Recommend a Visit?
As long as you aren’t expecting large France-like fields, Seven Oaks Lavender Farm is a cute, family-friendly place to check out their small little fields and have a picnic in the area. Since it is a farm where you can cut the lavender yourselves, there may be some sparse lavender bushes depending on when you go. The staff is friendly and will explain to you how to cut the lavender.
Don’t expect to spend all day here, but maybe an hour depending on how long you like to take photos or lunch! I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to head to this farm since it’s so small, but for a quick short visit or on the way to another nearby place, it would be worth a stop. Ever After Alpaca Farm is not too far away and could be a fun stop in addition to this lavender field.
