You guys know that I’m all about that dalgona trend – DALGONA COFFEE – DALGONA MATCHA & now Thai tea dalgona coffee! This is a variation of the original dalgona coffee using Thai tea. This whipped Thai Tea is super easy and delicious to make!
How Do I Make Thai Tea?
If I need a party size amount, I always use my Instant Pot. If I’m making one cup, I prefer brewing the Thai tea leaves on the stovetop or using my kettle. You can adjust the ratio of tea leaves & water depending on your strength preference. There are a few ways to make Thai Tea:
INSTANT POT
If you want to make a large batch to make Thai iced tea, I would recommend using your Instant Pot. It is a super-easy way to make a large batch at once, try this recipe here!
STOVE TOP or KETTLE
Bring water to a boil on the stovetop or by using a kettle. Add tea leaves to pot or cup. Allow leaves to steep for 5 minutes. Strain leaves and pour the tea into a cup. You can also use Thai tea bags using this method.
FRENCH PRESS
Add 1 cup of hot water to approximately 3 tablespoons of Thai tea leaves into a French Press. Gently stir the leaves to ensure all the leaves are wet. Allow the leaves to steep for about 5 minutes. Place the French press top & plunger back into the beaker and press gently down.
What Tea Leaves Do I Use?
I would recommend trying the Pantai Tea leaves or Number One Tea loose leaves. I have purchased the Pantai brand from my local Hmart and Great Wall supermarket previously.
For Thai tea leave bags, I would also recommend the Number One Red Label. The tea bags are individual vs. loose leaves tea mix. This would be perfect if you only want to make one cup at a time.
Why Do I Need Coffee?
Adding a little bit of instant coffee will help the Thai tea fluff up. It will not whip up without instant coffee. Do not try this using brewed coffee or a 3-in-1 instant coffee mix with sugar and creamer. Using a small amount of instant coffee will not overpower the Thai tea taste. This version will not be as stiff as the original Dalgona coffee recipe.
